Timed events are listed in the section below.

  • 10 am - 4 pm: The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library will offer a drop-in art making activity room.

  • 11 am - 2 pm: Part 1 of Neptune in June’s current exhibition will be on view at MAPSpace (6 N Pearl St #404E). Part II’s location of the show opens at the 3 pm:

    • If Not a Note, a Chasm is a study on lost narratives and supposed wasted energies. Within certain larger systems that are designed to inspire futility or exhaustion, hope often feels naive, indulgent, or is held as a special secret—as both a luxury and a deep necessity. The exhibition brings together practices that look at systems working as a powerful tide to exhaust us. Many of the artists instead perpetuate highly personal ways of redirecting or tapping into pre-existing structures of knowledge and energy. Featuring large-scale installation, sculpture, photography, drawing, painting, audio, and mixed-media works by Serdar Arat, Jesus Benavente, Sarah Crofts, Margaret Inga Urías, Steven Pestana, Jennifer Tazewell Mawby, and Kris Waymire.

  • 11 am - 2 pm: Carver Center will host the Village of Port Chester's Beautification Commission arts & crafts event and information center. Activities are for all ages and will include making pom-pom critters, selfie murals and sidewalk art! • 11 am - 4 pm: Open House at the Plumier Foundation (33 New Broad st)

    • Plumier is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the preservation of the skills and machinery in an esoteric art form called “ornamental turning,” which was an avocation of nobility dating back into the 16th century.   While its history is little known today, it was practiced by kings and queens such as Louis the XV and XVI, Peter the Great, and Victoria as well as myriad others.   While ornamental turning is the focus of our institution, teaching the skill set in an environment that works to alleviate the loneliness often associated with carrying out craft on a full time basis through the development of a craft community is the larger goal.   The skill set required to do ornamental turning will inform virtually any craft, and in the process of learning it the practitioner coming into from other trades will see their work transformed.  We are dedicated to teaching craft skills in a broad range of areas from jewelry and gem stone cutting to cabinetmaking to clock and watchmaking.  At Plumier the visitor can expect to see a broad array of Victorian wood and metal turning equipment, along with their modern counterparts, not only displayed but being demonstrated.    The more enthusiastic of visitors are welcome to even try their hand at it.  There will also be on display a wide variety of pieces which were made by the Plumier Foundation staff. www.plumier.org & @plumierfoundation on social media.
